Supporting Our Local Meat Producers
By now, most of us have read about meat plant closures or reduced operations throughout the nation brought about by widespread infection among their workers, workers’ unwillingness to work in unsafe conditions, etc.
While the headlines are focusing on large national operations, local meat producers are also facing real struggles in continuing their operations. Local meat and poultry farms are juggling adapting their operations to meet social distancing requirements, trying to maintain their high standards of production in the face of overwhelming demand, and contending with staff shortages and kinks in the food supply chain.
From the outset, Pinwheel Provisions has committed to carrying locally farmed products whenever possible, and we have sourced the meat & poultry we sell exclusively from local farms that are committed to the welfare of their animals and maintaining exceptionally high standards in their processing practices. These rigorous practices come through in the quality of their products: many of our customers have remarked that the Koch's turkey fillets we carry are the best turkey they have ever tasted, or that they have never found short ribs as tender & flavorful as those that we carry from Liberty Delight Farms (pictured above and below).
Sadly, because of the current circumstances, our suppliers are now forced to limit both the variety of products and the quantities they can supply and many have had to institute price increases to offset the increased costs of production.
Pinwheel Provisions will continue to source whatever meat and poultry products we can from the farms we support, both to bring our customers products whose quality and safety they can feel confidence in, and to maintain support for our suppliers, who have not compromised their standards even while introducing protective measures above & beyond what is now required.
