AAPIDA Philadelphia: Diwali Dancers + Dinner

Pinwheel Provisions (at Bryn Mawr Film Institute), 822 W Lancaster Ave, Bryn Mawr, PA

Celebrate Diwali with AAPIDA Philadelphia. Join us for a festive evening honoring Diwali, the Festival of Lights, at Pinwheel Provisions, hosted by Pinwheel owner Anjali Gupta. Learn about the rich traditions of this beloved celebration from Swarthmore Professor Pallabi Chakravorty and enjoy vibrant dance performances by Courtyard Dancers. You will also be welcomed by Sankeerthna Vedamtam, Bryn Mawr Film Institute's Programs and Education Coordinator. The evening continues with a delicious dinner with AAPIDA members. Come celebrate light, community, and culture with us.

Your ticket includes:

  • 💃🏽 Dance performances by Courtyard Dancers - Chirag-e-Chaman (The Luminous Garden) brings together poets from across India and the diaspora, from Vikram Seth and Tagore to Nazeer Akbarabadi, to narrate Diwali's joy and hope. The collective dancing is interspersed with trivat, a rare North Indian vocal genre that strings together percussion syllables into a wordless song.

  • 🍽️ A buffet dinner

  • 🎬 A special discount for a $10 ticket to Bryn Mawr Film Institute's upcoming Indian film, Manichitrathazhu, on November 14, 2026, at 1:00pm.

  • Use Promo Code: OrnateLock to purchase your ticket in advance. This screening will be introduced by Sankeerthna Vedamtam, BMFI Programs and Education Coordinator and Archive Panic founder. Stick around for a post-film talkback!

Free parking is available behind the Bryn Mawr Film Institute Building (access lot via Summit Grove Ave.). To travel by train from Center City Philadelphia, take Septa Regional Rail (Paoli/Thorndale Line) Outbound to Bryn Mawr Station, a 5 minute walk from station.
